Frequently Asked Questions

Microskill Lab’s Internet of Things program is a 260-hour, job-oriented hands-on program in Bangalore. It produces industry-ready IoT developers capable of building complete connected systems from hardware to cloud. After completing the program, you will programme ESP32-based devices, configure MQTT broker architectures, integrate sensors with AWS IoT Core and Things Board, build mobile control interfaces, design home automation systems, and apply IoT security practices. You will graduate with a portfolio of 4 completed real-time projects — precisely the competencies IoT product companies, smart building integrators, and industrial automation firms test during technical interviews.
The minimum requirement is a degree or three-year diploma from a technical stream where C, Python, or basic electronics formed part of the curriculum. Eligible backgrounds include BE/B.Tech in ECE, EEE, CSE, Mechanical, or Mechatronics; B.Sc in Electronics or Computer Science; and equivalent diploma holders. No prior IoT platform or cloud experience is needed — those skills are built from scratch within the curriculum. A working familiarity with at least one programming language is sufficient. The program is designed for both beginner IoT learners and experienced engineers seeking advanced IoT certification.
Students receive hands-on experience with AWS IoT Core — including device provisioning, rules engine configuration, device shadow management, and AWS Lambda integration. Alongside AWS, students work with Things Board for real-time dashboard creation, alarm management, and data visualisation. Node-RED is covered for building IoT data automation pipelines connecting MQTT feeds to cloud storage and alerts. Students configure and operate Mosquitto MQTT brokers, understand QoS levels, and implement retained message patterns. Google Cloud IoT Core is also introduced, ensuring students understand that core architectural concepts transfer across cloud providers in professional IoT roles.
Yes — Industrial IoT is a dedicated curriculum component, not an afterthought. Students study industrial sensor types including thermocouples, RTDs, and pressure transmitters, along with Modbus RTU and TCP protocol fundamentals used by industrial devices. The industrial projects module includes a complete IIoT data acquisition system using ESP32 and Raspberry Pi edge computing nodes, with MQTT pipelines feeding a ThingsBoard production-monitoring dashboard — replicating real smart factory architectures. IoT security in industrial environments is also covered, including network segmentation, DMZ architecture, and secure-by-design principles relevant to critical infrastructure protection.
Both programs share foundational ESP32 and C programming content but target different careers. The Embedded Systems program goes deep into low-level firmware — PIC, AVR, ARM Cortex-M, FreeRTOS, embedded Linux, and PCB design — targeting firmware engineer and hardware design roles at semiconductor and automotive companies. The IoT program extends into cloud connectivity, MQTT protocols, mobile application integration, and IoT security layers that embedded programs do not cover — targeting IoT solutions engineer, smart systems integrator, and connected product developer roles. Choose Embedded Systems for silicon-level work; choose IoT for full sensor-to-cloud product development.
